Apply on INSAIT

We are recruiting PhD students in computer vision across all directions of the group. We are interested in candidates with strong fundamentals in computer science, mathematics, or related fields who want to pursue ambitious, publishable research at top venues.

Research areas we work on

We welcome PhD applications aligned with — but not limited to — the following directions:

  • 3D Vision — reconstruction, neural fields, radiance fields, and geometric reasoning at scale.
  • Egocentric Vision — first-person video, audio, IMU, and language for situated understanding and forecasting.
  • Robotics — vision–language–action models, manipulation, sim-to-real transfer, and embodied perception.
  • Space AI — earth observation, onboard autonomy, and reliable perception for extreme environments.
  • Vision Agent — multimodal models, tool-using agents, and structured reasoning over images and video.
  • Visual Media — imaging, restoration, generation, and cinematic quality control for real-world capture.

See Research directions for the latest list and ongoing topics.

Program at a glance

PhD students are hosted at INSAIT (Sofia University) and mentored by our group’s faculty together with affiliated mentors. The program follows INSAIT’s standard PhD scheme:

  • Duration: up to 5 years, split into a research-orientation part (up to 2 years) followed by a thesis-focused part (up to 3 years).
  • Fellowship: full PhD fellowship of €39,684 gross per year.
  • Degree: issued by INSAIT at Sofia University.
  • Mentorship: close collaboration with INSAIT faculty and external advisers (e.g. at ETH Zurich); when supervised by an external adviser, students typically spend about 3 months a year visiting the adviser’s lab, fully covered by INSAIT.
  • Language: working language is English; international applicants are welcome.

Eligibility

INSAIT will consider students who hold (or will hold by the start of the program) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or electrical engineering. Students with only a B.Sc. complete their Master’s during the first two years of the doctoral program, fully funded.

INSAIT runs rolling admissions — you may apply at any time. Applications are submitted on the INSAIT platform and require:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree certificates
  • University transcripts
